Ava needs an Alert Assistance Dog!

When Ava was hospitalized on January 31, 2010, with ketoacidosis, her blood sugar was in the 700's. That day our whole life changed.

The doctors told us Ava had Type 1 diabetes, and she would need to take injections of insulin for the rest of her life.
Once we found the true problem and got her on the right track she was a new person almost instantly.
That does not mean that life suddenly got easier, now we have new issues to deal with, every day is a constant struggle to keep her blood sugar regular. Why Ava needs an Assistance Dog: When her blood sugar is below normal, she gets dizzy, her heart races, and she comes close to passing out.
She becomes inconsolable, and doesn't want to eat or drink anything to get her blood sugar back to normal.
When we are out in public, her blood sugar drops rapidly without any warning. We don't realize it until she starts screaming that her head hurts. Other times her blood is higher than normal, which makes her extremely thirsty and irritable.
The Diabetes Assistance Dog is trained to let someone know whenever her blood sugar is too low or too high. When a diabetic is having highs or low, they give off a certain scent in which dogs can only smell. These Dogs are so special they cost nearly $12,000 total!!
